Transit Plan Backed for Los Angeles Rail System
Citizens Committee for Rapid Transit supports SCRTD plan to raise 2.5 billion dollars via a 4 cent sales tax increase to finance an 89 mile five corridor rail rapid transit system. Project aims for operation by 1977 with 500000 daily riders by 1980, linking Long Beach, Wilshire, Valley, San Gabriel and Airport corridors. Opponents warn of costs and feasibility.
