Johnson Denounces Enemies of General Welfare Action
President Lyndon Johnson told about 1,000 delegates at the Electrical Workers Union convention in Washington that Americans face a bid for power from the extremes and that the choice is between the center and fringe. He warned against groups opposing democracy equality and compassion while urging support for the general welfare of citizens. The speech was broadcast to five other union gatherings via closed circuit TV and met with loud cheers and confetti.
