AFL-CIO Admits Exiled Dockmen

In San Francisco the AFL-CIO voted to reinstate the International Longshoremen's Association after a six year exile over corruption charges. ILA reentry was praised by George Meany as progress in cleansing the union, with 60,000 members to rejoin the labor family. Meany compared ILA cleanup to the Teamsters case, and a new arbitration system was outlined to settle inter union disputes, aiming to curb bickering and strengthen the merged labor movement.
