Heart bypass no better than drugs in study findings
Nationwide trial at 13 VA hospitals with 600 men aged 2 to 67 compared bypass surgery to standard drugs for angina. After 21 to 34 months, survival was similar: 88 percent with surgery versus 87 percent with drugs. Findings challenge broad use of bypass for angina, especially in less severe disease.
