Copra Fire in 460000 Gallon Tank Turns Into Daylong Blaze
A stubborn fire in a 60 by 50 foot copra chips tank at Baker's Commodities 401 Canal Street Wilmington Harbor required two Los Angeles city fire crews to work eight hours. Fire officials said spontaneous combustion started the blaze and the crew removed 2500 tons of copra to access the contents. Water was pumped in from the top while firefighters emptied the three inch diameter chips through an 8 by 8 foot bottom opening.
