Nation's Oldest Warship Now a Public Memorial
The USS Constellation, launched in 1797 in Baltimore and active in early wars, was turned over on July 22, 1955 to the Star Spangled Banner Flag House Association to be preserved as a public memorial. Also noted is the death of Frank Mendoza, 57, an immigration service inspector, in a late Friday traffic collision in Fremont.
