Nuclear bomb alarm system aims for rapid postdetonation notices
The Air Force announced a bomb alarm system built by Western Union that would flash alerts to key command posts including the Pentagon within minutes after detonation. It verifies impact areas from ballistic missile warnings, detects low flying submarine missiles, and uses three sensors per target area to relay data to the Pentagon Strat Air Command and Air Defense Command. The system costs about 730000 to install and four million annually to operate over 25000 miles of circuits.
