Walter Reuther said the International Executive Board authorized action for Tuesday Sept 30 and Chrysler’s deadline would be set by top officials depending on talks. UAW had just settled with Ford after a seven hour strike by about 98 000 workers and aims to resolve Chrysler first due to fewer plants and simpler issues.

Fire kills three children in Vacaville cottage blaze
A Friday morning fire destroyed a two bedroom frame cottage in Vacaville. Three children died Lorna Underwood 11 Jimmie Underwood 5 and Sheila 3. William B Callison, the homeowner and Lisa 17 months survived after saving the infant daughter. Eight others escaped with injuries including Callison who suffered first degree burns.

A second attack in 24 hours left Mavia Griffith, 23, and her 2-year-old son Kenneth shaken after a dark street ambush on 4th St near Junipero Ave. The bandit, about six feet tall and 30, wore light clothes. He threatened to kill the child and fled. The previous night he seized LaVelle Howard, 32, and her 5-year-old Mark at Burnett St and Linden Ave, stealing $52.50.
