Mrs. Rose Bucher, wife of Lt. Cmdr. Lloyd Bucher, received a personal letter and two photographs from her husband aboard the captured Pueblo. The Aug 28 letter, postmarked Sept 6, describes life in captivity as humane and shows the six officers in uniform. She notes others have yet to receive letters and expresses continued hope for their return.
Seven county social workers arrested in a narcotics raid by sheriff's deputies could be fired if evidence links them to selling dope and dangerous drugs through the county's Unattached Men's Center in Los Angeles. Welfare officials said Wednesday. The social workers were among 11 people arrested in raids Tuesday.
Donna Jean Ritter a 25 year old San Clemente beauty operator was killed in the parking lot of the San Clemente Inn by her ex husband Douglas Retzel 26 who then shot himself Sheriff detectives said Ritter had feared Retzel since her re marriage last January and had asked workers to call police if he harassed her. The confrontation occurred near 9 am as a salon employee saw Retzel enter Ritter s car and call police before the gunfire. Her husband William Ritter is awaiting shipment to Vietnam after a six month undercover narcotics investigation connected to a local center on East Fourth Place leading to multiple arrests for drug activity.
Atlantic Richfield Co and Bank of America unveiled plans for a 52 story twin tower complex in downtown Los Angeles. The $140 million project, named Atlantic Richfield Plaza, will be the citys tallest structure and provide the largest office space in the West, between Fig ueroa and Flower streets and Fifth and Sixth streets.
Head and Sgt Hitchings seized a crate addressed to Harman shipped Sept 12 and found about 300 pounds of marijuana. Suspects John Marshall Miller 20 and Jess Carson Little 21, both in Missouri, were identified. the narcotics were tightly wrapped yielding thousands of cigarette equivalents. The haul, valued high on the street, was described as well pressed and attractively wrapped.
Orange County Employer's Association voiced opposition to the Watson tax proposal on the November 5 ballot. Joe Dickerson, president, called the plan a cruel hoax that would wreck public schools and communities, benefiting only commercial property owners and real estate speculators.

The next LA hearing is set for Oct 31 and Nov 1 with a representative of the group possible as a witness.
