Healthy Adultery Idea Attacked by Local Experts
A Long Beach panel of psychiatrists and pastors evaluates Dr. Ellis’s claim that adultery can be healthy. Dr. Broadbent cautions against broad generalizations and seeks scientific validation, while Dr. Teitel argues adultery worsens relationships. Rev. Gunter and Rev. Doty emphasize monogamy, dignity, and the marriage bond, with other experts echoing concerns about harms and moral decline.

Lakewood Row on Assessments Upsets Meeting
A 600 person crowd packed Lakewood City Council chambers Monday night for a debate on county assessment practices. The session devolved into a shouting match over individual tax problems as residents complained of up to a 125 percent rise in property valuations since last year. Chief County Appraiser John Morrissey spoke on the appraisal process but was met with name calling, with Woodrow Smith of the Long Beach District Board of Realtors trying to keep discussion on topic. A major concern was that large assessment jumps could threaten veteran tax exemptions.
