English judge blocks sterilization of mentally challenged girl
An English judge ordered doctors to refrain from sterilizing a girl described as mentally backward. Judge Jose Heilbron ruled the operation not medically indicated and would deprive her of a basic right to reproduce. The case followed advocacy by educational psychologist Margaret Dubberley and involved the girl and her mother who had consented under medical advice.
