Defense compromise on Jordan Hawks sale aims for fixed defenses
Washington sources report Sen. Clifford Case and the State Department reached a formula to sell three fixed version Hawk air defense missiles to Jordan to protect Amman and other cities. Training would cover using fixed positions, addressing concerns over mobile capability and balance of power. Ford outlines U S aid to Israel after Sinai accord
President Ford said the United States would supply Israel with very substantial military weaponry after the Egyptian Israeli Sinai agreement but stressed it is not a security treaty. He noted items on a private shopping list, including F16 fighters and Pershing missiles, and cited a projected aid package of about 2.2 to 2.3 billion dollars for the current fiscal year. Kissinger on a speaking tour pledged continued diplomatic efforts in the Middle East and signaled readiness to work with Moscow while cautioning against interference with the latest accord.
