Lumber Carrier Driver Awes Kids On Waterfront

Edward Nunez now 26 drives lumber carriers in the harbor area shedding a child's awe as he climbs 13 feet high in the cab. He recalls the old days when big yellow trucks carried 20 ton loads and notes the cedar scent and fresh lumber aroma. The port supports about 300 workers and last year imports to Los Angeles Harbor and Long Beach Harbor would supply enough material for 65 000 homes. Nunez says driving near ground level makes him feel like he is in a quiet car, imagining a 1968 Cadillac at the end of the day.
