LAC Colter Sr urges voters to examine two statewide measures Prop 1 and Prop 17 proposing salary increases for state legislators tied to other pay. Prop 1 sets legislators at 50 percent of Congress salaries, about 11250 yearly. Prop 17 caps at 9345. The columnist criticizes the gimmick as shifting pay rises via linked offices and urges a simple, flat increase instead.
The Space Agency will present nine new astronauts, selected from 253 candidates and all 35 or older, at a Houston news conference. They may join the moon program era, with John H. Glenn Jr. as the elder at 41 to 46 by Apollo flight. The recruits likely include two Air Force and two Navy or Mercury veterans, training for Gemini and Apollo.

President Kennedy accepted William Daniel's resignation as Guam governor on Sunday. Daniel, appointed in 1961, cited pending legislation in Congress to allow Guam residents to elect their governor. An interim governor may be appointed by the President. Pierre Salinger said no interim has been named yet.
