Jobs plan to help poor youths finish school
Washington AP The Labor Department launches an experimental program to place about 20 000 youths aged 16 to 19 in year round public service jobs to encourage high school completion. Jobs start January with minimum wage rising to about 2.65 and about 20 hours weekly during the school year and full time in summer. Local communities and school systems will run the program under a $1 billion national effort signed by President Carter, with first grants in January and jobs likely in hospitals and schools.
