A Century City chamber of commerce promotion called Girl Watchers Week draws both praise and protest from local women. Critics label the event degrading and infantile while an Ad Hoc Committee of Century City Women campaigns against it, though the chamber bars bleachers for spectators.
A federal judge considered requests to dismiss a subpoena for records stored in the name of Dr. Daniel Ellsberg as part of a sealed dispute. Ellsberg, awaiting trial in Los Angeles on charges of unauthorized possession and conversion of secret documents, did not attend the hearing. The grand jury that indicted Ellsberg last June seeks the files held by Bekins Van and Storage Co to determine if they carry government security classifications. The defense argues the subpoena violates rights against self incrimination and unlawful search and seizure. The judge took the motion under advisement and will rule next week.
The Kristovich misconduct investigation moves to a two week jury hearing at the Hall of Justice. County officials and witnesses including Gordon Nesbit and Lindon Hullinger are expected to testify as ex chief administrator Waldo Kristovich, 86, fights suspension over alleged mismanagement of estate assets and private asset sales.
