Life Loses Meaning in Carroll Couple's Death Pact

Retired druggist Charles A. Carroll, 82, and his wife Maude, both in failing health, apparently chose to die together after leaving signs announcing their 51st wedding anniversary. A neighbor found them in their Obispo Avenue apartment and noted suicide notes. Carroll died later at Community Hospital as authorities sealed the scene.
