Garlits Wins Fourth NHRA Drag Title in Indianapolis
Don Garlits defeated Shirley Muldowney in the top fuel final at Indianapolis Raceway Park to claim his 14th NHRA career title and a $20,000 prize. Muldowney, seeking the first major drag racing championship by a woman, finished runner-up after a 6.44 second run. Judy Lilly lost to Jack Mullins in the super stock final.
