Tax hike on Long Beach property owners over dual exemptions
About 1,300 Long Beach property owners face higher city taxes after applying for both veteran and homeowner exemptions. The council set Nov 12 for hearings on increases caused by denials of either exemption. Deputy City Attorney Bennett noted public hearing is required for raised assessments, but attendance by owners is often unlikely. California Prop 1A created a $740 homeowner exemption and a $1,000 veteran exemption, disallowing both on the same property.
