Telephone Labor Pact Nears Ratification In West
SAN FRANCISCO UP union and telephone company negotiators reached a three year contract covering 36000 workers in California and Nevada. Richard Hackler of the CWA AFL-CIO called the settlement the most significant wage and benefit progress in negotiations. Wages rise 3.50 to 8 a week with some as high as 13, a 7 percent increase over three years, plus a wage reopening in 18 months and improved hospitalization medical benefits pensions and insurance. The pact must be ratified by CWA members by November 4.
