Since Sputnik 1, the U.S. has 12 successes in 16 launches, Russia three, with several U.S. attempts to reach the moon failing and Russia claiming one lunar hit.
Lakewood Center announces a contest in which the top club or group will win $1,000 in cash on Oct. 34. Registered clubs and church groups can compete by collecting Lakewood Center Civic Bucks earned with each purchase. Bucks are turned in for credit. the club with the most bucks by Dec. 31 receives the $1,000 prize.
