Antiques are a major commitment says museum curator
William Ezelle Jones of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art warns antique collectors to study wood types, construction, and care. He notes English pieces suffer climate shock in dry regions like Southern California and advises moisture balance, avoiding particle board and green wood, and valuing hand work and patina. He lectures for the Long Beach Museum of Art Alliance on wood evolution and seating furniture.
