Anchor Dragged Boy to Death Off Long Beach Harbor
A 15-year-old boy drowned near the Long Beach Harbor breakwater after becoming entangled in an anchor line and dragged to the ocean bottom while aboard the 24 foot cabin cruiser St Judd. The father Norman Lyon reported the incident 600 yards north of the harbor entrance as the line proved unattached to the boat. Lifeguards and Coast Guard divers searched 60 feet of water but only recovered the anchor as night fell.
