Linkage to NLB Planned and Market Street Extension
The County Road Department plans to open and pave Candlewood Street along Market Street alignment across an unincorporated island between Cherry and Deboyar Avenues. In a Friday hearing on Union Pacific Rail Road Co. 35-year franchise for Long Beach crossings, UP attorney Malcolm Davis said the county seeks permission to construct grade crossings on the main and spur lines. The $150,000 project would connect Market and Candlewood dead ends to create a through street from the Los Angeles River to the east city boundary and into Lakewood, with Councilman Charles Dooley urging city action in tandem with the franchise. The City Bureau of Franchises delayed action.
