Kids Like to Make Own Music Youth survey tracks teen musical interest
A nationwide survey shows 54 percent of teens play an instrument and seven in ten non players want lessons. Girls lean piano or guitar while boys favor guitars drums brass and varied instruments. Most girls train privately while many boys are self taught. Almost three quarters of girls would not pursue professional music, while over half of boys would. Personal motives range from money to artistic fulfillment.
