Army Outport to Build $225000 HQ at Long Beach Harbor

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners tentatively approved a $225000 building to serve as the Army Southern California Outport headquarters. Brig. Gen. John D. Crowley said costs could be recouped via higher cargo tariffs as the outport handles about 1.5 million tons yearly. The 17900 square foot facility would house an IBM computer and data processing center, near the current truck control point. Charles L. Vickers will study adaptable structures for Army needs and potential future tenants.
