Navy historian debunks Soviet Columbus claim as old theory
Navy historian Rear Adm. Samuel Eliot Morison dismisses a Russian claim that Columbus did not discover America as a long discredited theory. Morison notes the idea echoes 1910s works by Henry Vignaud and was refuted in Columbus' lifetime. He says Columbus sought Asia, not a new world, and the map story has no basis.
