Naples Canal Era In Early Naples Beach Development
Naples began as a bold dream by A M Parsons and A C Parsons, aided by Henry Huntington's ties, with spur rail lines from Los Angeles to a canal town later named Naples. Investors sold lots along Riva Alto and Naples canals, promising navigable waters and a planned Colonnade Canal restaurant. Financial setbacks after the 1906 earthquake halted progress, but revival came in 1919 with Heilmann Shore. Original bridges were later demolished, and bronze plaques from the bridges were donated to the Long Beach Historical Society.
