Greatest aqueduct under way in California Water Project
Gov. Reagan opened the Edmonston Pumping Plant marking the start of the California Water Project massive system. The plant will move water from Northern California across the Tehachapi range toward Southern California at up to 120 million gallons per hour, a central $3 billion feat in a 20 year development.

California enviro bill stalls in Senate committee
Sacramento AP A major antipollution bill to merge California pollution duties into a single state agency nearly failed in its first Senate Committee session after over two hours of testimony from 14 witnesses. Assemblyman Edwin Zhaerg said a vote on the plan to create a full time environmental quality board and eight regional boards likely won t occur until the Senate Governmental Organization Committee meets again next week. Berg called the 151 page measure a coordinated approach to protect the environment, arguing it would outperform current fragmented agencies.
