Phnom Penh reports a major new offensive as up to 10,000 Communist forces attack a Cambodian task force north of the capital. Maj. Am Rong says the assault near Tang Kauk and Prakham is the largest of the war. Troops, rocket and mortar barrages mark the third strike in as many nights.
Gen Juan Jose Torres swept to power in La Paz with a strong show of strength that toppled rightist opponents. Ten leftist demonstrators were reported killed in a mining town by military officers during the two day conflict. Torres pledged a popular nationalist government as crowds cheered. Gen Rogelio Miranda, the army chief of staff, reportedly sought refuge in a foreign embassy with two junta members after resigning the president.

He claimed harassment, mental anguish, and letters of threat and notes the case moved from Manhattan Supreme Court to federal court.
A Navy veteran who fathered a one year old daughter was granted a divorce in New York after telling Judge Thomas Aurelio he had become a woman and wished to marry a man. He was also granted the right to change his name to Deborah. The custody of their daughter was awarded to the mother.
