Indefinite stay of execution granted for American in Bahamas

A 22-year-old Milwaukee songwriter Michael Shobek was spared the gallows after a Bahamas government stay granted at the request of his lawyers and U.S. officials. He had been scheduled to be hanged for the 1974 stabbing death of Tevin Bernstein in Fox Hill Prison, Nassau. The stay follows efforts to obtain new evidence not available at trial. The case also involved two other American tourists tied to the same murder allegations.
