The Mad Hatters marionette show stages Thursday to Saturday at 318 Pine Ave during the God Of Days celebration. Designed for adults and children, the act features a dancing sink singing ostrich skeleton and clown, with a round-theater setup claimed to enhance movement and magic.
Wilmore Company, based in Long Beach, brings improvisational story theatre to the Good Days celebration as part of the Recreation Department’s bicentennial observance. The group, linked with Civic Light Opera and the Public Library, will tour Long Beach schools with a production about the city’s early development. Music by Deve Barton accompanies sketches. Hazel Haynes will teach Polynesian, Samoan, and Hawaiian dances during the exhibit and department classes. Registrations are open for upcoming performing arts classes across South Side sites, including Arabian dance programs.
A new Live Trout fishing pond opens on Fifth Street near Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach. The setup offers a mixed age experience with a fee of 3 cents per minute or per fish, whichever comes first, with all caught fish placed in a plastic bag for take-home convenience after shopping is finished.
The club will perform lively dances from around the world during the downtown celebration. Members will distribute registration information for their new member commitment campaign. The group plans fall sessions beginning October 5 at the Hutch on Locust Avenue with a $10 fee for the NiHes son series. singles and couples welcome.
