Hijackers surrender in Algeria after six day odyssey
Five Japanese hijackers freed 19 hostages from four planes and surrendered to Algerian authorities ending a six day terror campaign across Asia and North Africa. The 12 passengers and seven crew members were reported in good health as they were taken away. An American on the final leg, Thomas Phelan of San Francisco, was described as well but tired with digestive issues from irregular meals. Authorities declined to state the fate of the ultratefriest terrorists or their six comrades and kept silent about a one million dollar ransom handed over with freed prisoners in Dacca.
