U.S. auto sales hit third best month as 1976 models rise
U.S. automakers posted their third strongest month in a year for September with 590,323 cars sold. GM led with its best 10 day period since October 1973 as higher priced 1976 models accounted for 46 percent of GM’s September sales. Imports held 19 percent of the market, a low for the year, while Toyota and Datsun set September records. Ford and Chrysler posted declines from a year ago amid a market recovery from a two year slump.
