County assessor joins suit to stop redevelopment
County assessor Philip Watson has joined Los Angeles City Councilman Bernardi in a lawsuit to block a downtown redevelopment project spanning three square miles. Watson accuses the plan of siphoning multimillion dollar tax money for private use and says tax dollars in redevelopment must be replaced by funds from outside the central city. He also cofiles a complaint contesting the blight declaration used by redevelopment agencies to authorize renewal.
