County urged state help on subsidence in Long Beach

Los Angeles board of supervisors on Tuesday urged the interim committee of the State Assembly Manufacturing Oil and Mining Industry to push legislation to solve the Long Beach subsidence problem. The county ordered Engineer John A. Lambie to attend hearings starting Thursday and aid in securing remedial measures. The resolution noted subsidence up to 24 feet in the center of the bowl, sinking at about a foot per year, endangering thousands of workers and threatening the Long Beach Naval Shipyard which could close in 1958 without state action.
