Fleeing Man Slain Two Michigan Troopers Shot
A fleeing man was killed after a chase that left two Michigan state troopers wounded. The incident began when a car was stolen near Springville west of Clinton and a station wagon used in the shooting was abandoned with Virginia plates. Police pursued the suspects along the highway.

Dr Russell V Fisher 43 of Bayshore Ave reported stolen from his car at Community Hospital amounting to 292 in medical gear and drugs. Trooper Dugald A Pellot, a rookie and father, was killed. Trooper Douglas A Vogel, 27, in serious condition with multiple wounds. Vogel and Pellot were pursuing two cars five miles south of Clinton when Vogel was shot and Pellot intercepted the vehicles and was also shot.

A nine year old boy was knocked from his tricycle by a car on the sidewalk in front of 1772 Orizaba Avenue. The driver Samuel Dewitt Talbert Jr of 1772 Orizaba Avenue backing out did not see the child. The boy Lealon F Young of 18014 East Pacific Coast Highway received head and right elbow abrasions at Community Hospital.

Search abandoned for Navy pilot after Catalina bailout
A four day search by Navy and Coast Guard planes and surface ships for a Navy pilot who bailed out of his FOFS Cougar jet near Catalina Friday was abandoned Monday. Forty-one surface ships, planes and helicopters covered 3,600 square miles of the Pacific during the search.
