Robbers shoot defiant grocer in Inglewood market
Byoung Pak, 42, owner of Grace's Market at 611 E. Fairview Blvd., was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt at 12:10 pm. Fog shuts Long Beach airport and shuts down flights
Patchy coastal fog settled on Long Beach Wednesday night closing the airport to commercial flights as runway visibility dropped below one half mile. A spokesman said the fog was moving in rapidly after the 9 30 p m closing. Police reported a single car accident at Ocean Boulevard and Van Kamp Street at about 9 p m. Steven Daugherty 28 of Carson who complained of back injuries after his car struck a power pole was taken to St Mary Medical Center emergency room.

Lakewood student A 1577 honored graduate killed in crash
Fiery Lakewood High School honor graduate David Robert Baird 18 was killed Monday when his car was struck from behind on Lakewood Boulevard north of Del Amo Boulevard at 11:20 am and burned after a high speed collision. Carlous Barry Parker 21, of Lakewood, driving about 80 mph, was jailed on felony vehicular manslaughter charges and treated for a broken arm and leg. Services for Baird at 1:30 pm Saturday at the Church of Our Fathers Forest Lawn Cypress.
