Wallace sets conditions for electoral support in deadlock
Wallace said in a TV interview that if no candidate wins 270 electoral votes he would back only a contender who pledges to implement the third party's promises. He listed local government, tax relief for the little man, crackdown on street anarchy, halting aid to non helping Vietnam opponents, stopping civilian Viet Cong support, and building strong military power. He predicted a clear win and noted Congress would likely support his plans.

Muskie Campaign Stop Quiets Wallace Tape Incident
In Richmond a crowd of about 1 200 cheered Sen. Edmund Muskie as a dozen Wallace supporters tried to disrupt the airport rally with a Wallace speech tape. Muskie mocked the noise maker and urged voters to stay the course in the race now seen as a close contest. He later spoke in Washington on television with Vice President Humphrey and returned to Maine for a final speech asserting the Humphrey Miskie ticket will win the next Tuesday election.

McCarthy Questions Humphrey Victory Prospects
Senator Eugene J. McCarthy said he doubts endorsement of Hubert Humphrey or Johnson’s halt to the North Vietnam bombing will win Humphrey the presidency. He suggested 30 to 50 percent of voters oppose the two party system and noted his late endorsement may help but not guarantee victory. He added the bombing halt could aid Senate dove candidates more than the presidential race.
