Sex Bias Ban on Job Is Rejected by Assembly Panel
A bill to ban sex discrimination in employment failed in the Assembly Governmental Efficiency Committee after an initial 63 vote in favor. Opposition from restaurant owners and Los Angeles, which warned FEPC could force women to drive refuse trucks, helped defeat the measure. An added Burton bill on suspension of real estate licenses for refusals was approved, while an amendment removing Negro membership requirements from the California Real Estate Association was struck.
