Wayne Sharp a former Long Beach councilman lost a bid for a second trial on charges he gave false information to officers investigating his single vehicle crash. He was convicted May 1 by a Compton Municipal Court jury and faced sentencing July 2 with a probation report ordered.
In a Sacramento trial, prosecutor Lowell Jensen said Marcus Foster signed the grant application for federal funds and thus “signed his own death warrant.” He claimed Foster’s actions tied to the Oak Land School District murder case and warned the person who signed the grant would face lethal retribution from gunmen. The jury heard seven hours of testimony as the defense and witnesses described the violent plan surrounding the superintendent’s killing.
A 93 year old man, Roger Peterson of Chicago, is ordered to stand trial May 30 in Long Beach Superior Court for his alleged role in the Princess Louise restaurant robbery in San Pedro. The 1971 theft of $11 000 involved suspects posing as magazine journalists and threats to manager Mike Morrell and owner Charles Sutton.
Jerry Dean Michel an economy car promoter testified on Tuesday that he took hormone injections to change its sex and that a Secret Service agent harassed his pregnant wife in Los Angeles on the trial’s first day. The agent Kenneth Thompson denied the allegations under oath. Mrs Michael cried while detailing the harassment and called her husband “like a sister” as the judge called a recess.
