About 10 000 South Vietnamese marines rangers and infantrymen launched a new operation into Cambodia, overrunning an arms shop and an ammunition dump and killing 18 Communists on day one. The drive raised Vietnamese strength to about 40 000 in Cambodia.
Indonesian President Suharto told President Nixon that the threat of a new war is spreading and urged the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Cambodia to preserve Cambodia's sovereignty. Nixon, praising Suharto as the man of the hour, acknowledged shared beliefs in freedom from foreign domination.
Congress gathers for a teary farewell to Speaker John McCormack after 42 years in the House. President Nixon and Lyndon Johnson lead tributes as colleagues pledge affection and sorrow at his retirement.

The Ra II progress near Cape Juby and a three day infant death in Seaside closed the batch.
