Bonelli Seeks 2 Million Dollar Cut to Limit Tax Rise
Los Angeles County Supervisor Frank G. Bonelli stated he will ask for a $2 million reduction in next year's county construction budget to prevent a tax increase. He noted a January pledge to avoid tax hikes and cited 11 percent pay raises for sheriff's deputies and firefighters adding $1.9 million, unbalancing the austerity budget. Budget officials have already trimmed capital outlays to a postwar low with only about $9.66 million for new projects and $4.17 million for already begun construction, a 43.4 percent drop from the prior level.
