Motorist Survives 300-Foot Fall From Clifftop
49 year old Don E Marvel of Torrance lost control on a curving State 30 road then plunged more than 100 feet down a nearly vertical slope into a four foot deep wash. He survived with head abrasions and was hospitalized for observation after being evacuated by a rescue team. Two fishermen witnessed the fall.

Survive 4 Day Ordeal In Baja Mountains
An astronomer Daniel Tottoer and librarian Bar Anderson, both from San Francisco, were rescued after four days lost in rugged Baja California. They were dehydrated and weak but survived threats from wild animals before being taken to Los Angeles for observation. The rescue followed a prior Cuban oil deal report and a separate Kilauea eruption near Hawaii that damaged parts of the Chain of Craters Road.
