California Senate rejects Brown plan for $90 monthly raises
The Senate Finance Committee voted 7 to 2 against Gov. Brown's across the board $90 per month salary hike for state workers, saying it would be illegal and unconstitutional. Analysts said including judges would violate the constitution and state law on salaries. The plan would shift $190 million in raises and face possible insertion into the budget by the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, with a conference to resolve differences.
