California Referendum Could Delay U S Nuclear Plans
Washington AP A federal official warned that a June 8 California referendum restraining new nuclear plants could force a rethink of civilian atomic power programs. Richard W. Roberts of the Energy Department said an adverse vote would bring uncertainty to the nuclear industry and require rebalancing federal priorities. Frank Baranowski noted 50 or 60 potential burial sites for nuclear waste, with talks to state officials and environmental studies planned.

Solar energy funding gains in House energy bill
The House tentatively approved 345.2 million dollars for solar research as part of a broader energy plan authorizing over 7.1 billion for ERDA in 1977. An additional 116 million was steered to solar power research, with 1.5 million for staffing the Solar Energy Research Institute and 4 million for research there. The bill also reserves about 5.2 billion for nuclear energy and related tech, while over 1 billion targets non nuclear energy like fossil, solar, and geothermal.
