CIA finds potentially millions more mail intercepts on film

Rep. Bella Abzug said CIA microfilm from 1958 to 1973 may contain about a million additional intercepted letters. The letters circulated through New York’s post office and were photographed for monitoring U.S. mail to the Soviet Union and other Communist countries. Abzug noted the finding could force a reexamination of agency replies to thousands who asked for records, and a San Francisco court ruling may be reopened to address Colby testimony about the CIA knowing victims’ names.
