New York Hails Matsonia Visit and Harbor Salute

The Matsonia, rebuilt at a cost of millions, arrived in New York Harbor for a four day visit after service from California to Hawaii. Passengers included congressmen, executives, and newsmen as harbor craft saluted with water sprays and helicopters hovered above. Commanded by Capt Hans Matthiesen, the 25 year old liner was scheduled to sail west via the Panama Canal. A separate report notes a Danish ship and a mysterious object in the North Sea as distress signals prompted a major search by the Admiralty.
