Hugh Mendez, Poly High varsity baseball coach for two years, leaves to take a similar post at Whittier College. He will relieve athletic director John Godfrey of coaching duties and assist in football with defensive backs. Mendez, from Pasadena, has a 20-17-1 record at Poly. Whittier went 9-26 in baseball last year.
