An Ontario government report says Toronto is winning its battle against air pollution with sharp drops in sulphur dioxide and fine particles. Four major firms were removed from the blacklist for meeting pollution abatement standards, with further improvements expected as a power station switches from coal to natural gas.
Sacramento Assemblyman John Quimby introduces a three part incentive to curb air pollution. The bill would exempt from state sales tax anti-pollution systems approved by the Air Resources Board, halve vehicle license fees for cars with approved devices for the installation year, and offer a state income tax exemption for half the purchase and installation cost in that year. Quimby says incentives could boost progress against smog.
